The Tourist
Olen Steinhauer

Milo Weaver has led a life filled with espionage - a life being what was known as a  " Tourist "  for for the CIA. He's had many aliases ", and his only home being a desk at the CIA's  headquarters in New York.

Milo has  tried to leave his old life., and have a regular life with his wife and daughter. However , when an old colleague, Angela, is killed, and the CIA suspects her of leading two lives and being in bed with the enemy, Milo has found he wants to know the truth.

The cases from Milo's past make their bows, as his search for what happened to Angela and the cover-ups that follow, bring up old memories and the people that were a part of them. We are given a taste of the past world of espionage, the changes taking place in the world of politics and crime today, and the sheer ruthlessness that rules the life of a Tourist.

I Am a former fan of the best of John le Carre', which Mr. Steinhauer is being compared to. I'm  not sure that comparison is an accurate one, but I do feel that Milo  Weaver gives an accurate picture of a spy that is also a principled man that  loves his wife and daughter, and can no longer make that combination work.

In the dark world of false identifies, crime, politics, murder and mayhem, it is almost impossible to keep a family separate and safe.

The Tourist is complicated, Milo Weaver is charming and dangerous, but I leave the end result up to you.
