Old Filth Old Filth is a nickname given to Sir Edward Feathers, earned as a brilliant lawyer in Southeast Asia. The translation is :Failed In London, Try Hong Kong! In his later years he was a respected judge at the English bar. The story begins when Old Filth is almost eighty, retired to Dorset, and a widower. He had been happy with his wife, Betty and had become wealthy and popular. Even now , he is immaculate, handsome, and alert. He was good with people - his servants stayed with him forever. The author, Jane Gardam, has written a novel that travels between the past and the present without missing a beat, and tells the varied and interesting life story of Filth with an eye that is sophisticated, witty, and smart. You won't forget Sir Edward, his odd ball family or his ability to remain true to himself. Jane Gardam has received many literary awards, two of the most recent being the Heywood Hill Literary Prize in 1999, and shortlisted for the 2005 Orange Prize. She lives in England with her husband. This is a beautiful, haunting book that makes you reread and absorb the quality of the author's storytelling. Filth's life is coming to its end, at the conclusion of the 20th century. There is intelligence here and a gracefulness that is captivating. Published:
