Blueberry Summers
Growing up at the Lake
By Curtiss Anderson

This memoir of wonderful summers growing up at a Minnesota lake brings back nostalgic personal memories to this reader! Our two sons and friends spent 30 summers with us at my parents summer cottage on Pelican Lake in Minnesota.

The Scandinavian relatives are quite a crew - much can be learned from them. The slower pace , home made food, fresh berries and produce - it all comes together with the water, boats, fishing and just plain living.

This young boys hopes, fears, accidents and plain, lazy fun bring back a time you think will last forever. Of course it doesn't but the lessons learned and the love shared do last. Curtiss Anderson has relayed to readers a way of life that will remind us all of times past with eccentric neighbors and relatives during special summers. I'm guessing perhaps it doesn't have to be in Minnesota, but for me it was.

Curtiss' Great Aunt Ingabord was a marvel filled with wise advice and fun, during a summer spent on a porch after an accident. Each relative or neighbor had their own strengths and weaknesses, but the end result was unforgettable.

Curtiss Anderson will remind you of how it was, if you were lucky enough to grow up in a special    "summer place". This writer has had a long career with Hearst Magazines as an editorial consultant and editor in chief of Ladies Home Journal. He now lives in Tiburon, CA.
