The Friday Night Knitting Club
By Kate Jacobs
I used to be a knitter, and this book makes me want to find a great knit shop, buy some fabulous yarn and get right back in the swing of making something special!
Once a week, when this diverse group of women gathers to learn to knit, or become more expert in this wonderful craft, something else happens - they gradually become friends as well as knitters having a night out.
Walker and Daughter is the name of the shop in New York City, and Georgia, the owner, is a very busy woman. She is a single mother raising a teenage daughter in an apartment above the shop. Georgia and Dakota, her daughter , are very close, so when her old best friend from high school shows up out of the blue, and then Dakota's father who she hasn't seen for years, its all a bit more than she wants invading her life.
Time marches on, and gradually the pieces begin to fit together with many accommodations made from all those involved - surprises in store for James, the father, Cat the long lost friend, and certainly Georgia and Dakota.
Life has a way of throwing a nasty curve at you, just when things are beginning to come together, and the future looks bright and filled with love. That's when Georgia feels blessed to have true friends from the knitting club to see her through what lies ahead. It seems an extended family has been created and that is the miracle that carries the day.
This book is about friendship and fun, caring and growing in their personal lives and finding a place to call home. You might even find a recipe to enjoy, so find a cozy chair, an afghan to keep you warm (preferably a knitted one) and settle in for a delightful evening.
The Friday Night Knitting Club was published in 2007, and is out in trade paper in 2008 with a Reader's Guide included.
