The Glass Devil
An Inspector Irene Huss
Investigation set in Sweden and England
By Helene Tursten
Helene Tursten, of Goteborg, Sweden, has been compared to P. D. James and Sara Paretsky. She writes a compelling, psychological mystery, that is intelligent and sneaky. She also makes all of the characters interesting along with Irene Huss, and gives an updated view of life in Sweden and England as it is today.
In this novel, Irene Huss is asked to look into the unexplained absence of a teacher from school. When he is found murdered in his summer cottage, and his parents also murdered in their own home, shot between the eyes, the plot thickens. The father was a pastor - the mother a sickly quiet woman.
Pentagrams left behind suggest a cult might be involved, but is it that simple? Inspector Huss must go to London to interview the only remaining member of the family - a daughter named Rebecka.
This is a different sort of tale. The pace begins slowly, but gradually picks up steam, as the personalities of the various characters evolve in a most interesting way.
Helene Tursten was a nurse and a dentist before becoming an author. Her mysteries have been made into film and a TV series in Sweden.
