Dust
By Martha Grimes

One look at the title and the Dust jacket, and I'm smiling already! Martha Grimes has produced another Richard Jury mystery - just out in book stores in January of 2007.

Benny Keegan and his dog Sparky are responsible for Jury being involved in this murder. Benny, an old friend of Jury's , is thirteen years old, but passes for sixteen and  is a substitute waiter for old  Gilbert at the Zetter Hotel. When he delivers an order of coffee to Billy Maple's room and finds him murdered, his first call is to Jury to get him out of this predicament.

Billy Maples is a wealthy bachelor and was last seen at a trendy club named Dust . The chief officer sent by the police to investigate the crime is Lu Aguilar and she is a beauty. Jury is taken off guard - his resistance to the lady is non -existent. However, they both pursue the clues that present themselves.

Billy had been a caretaker at Lamb House  in Rye, where Henry James had lived and composed three of his most important novels. It seemed a strange thing for a wealthy bachelor to do .

As the investigation progresses, we are treated to the fun part of Jury mysteries - the cast of characters that are Jury's friends and house mates and  the irrepressible Melrose Plant who is conned into investigating Lamb House for Jury. Mrs. Wasserman, his landlady makes her appearance, as well as Carol-anne, the attractive  young lady that has a neighboring apartment and makes it her life's business to keep track of Richard Jury's life.

Aguilar takes prime time in this case as well and Jury needs all his charm, experience and brain power to sort this one out before its too late; or is it too late for someone he has come to love and trust?

Martha Grimes and her Richard Jury novels take place in various locales in England. However, this author makes her home in Washington, D.C.
