Mission Statement

The Flathead County Library System provides, to community members of all ages, materials and programs to satisfy their recreational reading, viewing, and listening appetites, as well as their interests in cultural and social trends; the means to find, evaluate, and use information in a variety of formats; and a welcome environment in which to meet and interact with others in the community and to participate in public discourse.

Circulation Policy

Most materials in the Flathead County Library System will be circulated to registered library cardholders who wish to borrow them, except those materials in the Reference Collection and in the Flathead Special Collection. Some non-circulating materials may be checked out upon the payment of a refundable deposit. If the materials have not been returned by the seventh day following the due date, such deposit will be forfeited.

All materials are checked out for a specified amount of time. Any materials returned late will be subject to the established daily fine set in accordance with current library practices.

When library materials in the possession of a patron are lost, the patron will be responsible for the costs of replacement. The original cost of the lost material will be determined and a processing fee, in accordance with current standards, will be added. If it is not possible to determine the original price of the lost material, a default price will be charged. Charges will not be refunded even if a lost item is found, but the item will become the property of the patron.

When materials in the possession of a patron are damaged but can be repaired, a charge will be made based upon the extent of the damage and the age and condition of the item. If an item is so badly damaged that it cannot be repaired, the patron Will be charged the original price of the item, plus a processing fee. The damaged material will become the property of the patron after the charge has been paid.
